Corpus Christi

Saturday was sunny(ish) so we packed up our swimming suits and drove down to the coast.  We hadn’t seen the ocean since we moved here, so we just started driving in a southeasterly direction.  We had thought it was about and hour and a half away, but it was more like 2 1/2 hrs.  That is a long time in the car, but the kids were mostly good. How did our parents manage any trips without the marvels of modern electronics?

We got there with a huge line of cars and realized that it was the last day of Spring Break – probably the worst day of the entire year to be there.   Thousands of people, tons of cops, but we found a place  that wasn’t too crowded, and climbed out onto very soft sand.  It was a great day with a perfect mix of wind, clouds and sunshine.

Darian slept most of the time to the crashing of the waves.  Kaela was a waterbug and jumped up and down in the waves every time we went out. Eliora HATED the water and screamed, “Take me out!” even when she was being carried.  But she loved the soft sand and played nicely for hours.

After much sand, some water and lots of energy, we were all ready to go.  The constant line of cars never stopped from the time we got there at 11:00 and left at 4:00.  On the way back out of town we discovered that the line to get onto the beach stretched back about 5 MILES on the freeway. We decided that we were glad we weren’t going to see what things turned into after daylight hours.

All in all it was a blast, though the girls did get a few mild sunburns in places where the sunscreen obviously wasn’t put on thick enough. All three kids slept most of the ride home.
