This year we have been busy planting a garden. It is mostly a preschool activity in watching seeds grow, but we have had lots of fun and hope for many tasty rewards.
The kids and I all went to Lowes and scoured their seed section to find our favorites. We bought: tomato, cucumber, zucchini, cantaloupe, okra, lettuce, spinach, peppers (green, habanero, poblano), and strawberries. No, our garden is not an acre and no, it will not all fit, but we had a lot of fun choosing our favorites.
We planted most things in boxes at first.
Lee and I hoed up the garden, which was really hard work. The plot in back was mostly weeds and grass and getting down to the soil took a lot of chopping. My hands got callused and my back a bit sore.
The girls helped me plant, rake, hoe, and best of all - transplant. I took the seedling from the box and put it in their hands and they dropped it into the hole.
Darian stayed quiet (in short bursts).
Good old family dirt time. Can't beat that! Looks like fun.
