Planting a Garden

This year we have been busy planting a garden.  It is mostly a preschool activity in watching seeds grow, bIMG_2091ut we have had lots of fun and hope for many tasty rewards.

The kids and I all went to Lowes and scoured their seed section to find our favorites.  We bought: tomato, cucumber, zucchini, cantaloupe, okra, lettuce, spinach, peppers (green, habanero, poblano), and strawberries.  Garden Planting (1)No, our garden is not an acre and no, it will not all fit, but we had a lot of fun choosing our favorites.

We planted most things in boxes at first.

Lee and I hoed up the garden, which was reallIMG_0443y hard work.  The plot in back was mostly weeds and grass and getting down to the soil took a lot of chopping.  My hands got callused and my back a bit sore.

The girls helped me plant, rake, hoe, and best of all - transplant.  I took the seedling from the box and put it in their hands and they dropped it into the hole.IMG_2062

Darian stayed quiet (in short bursts).
