Halloween

Halloween this year consisted of a variety of activities over several days that involved wearing our costumes.  It was Lee’s idea to dress up as the Wizard of Oz characters.  Kaela was Dorothy, Eliora the cowardly lion, Lee the tin man and I was the scarecrow.  We made all the costumes ourselves and think they turned out well.

At Playgroup where we made various Halloween crafts and frosted sugar cookies.

Friday we wen to the ward chili cook-off and trunk-or-treat.  It was a crazy night because we had combined with another ward. Our chili got dropped off 10 minutes too late to be put into the contest, but I think it was darn good chili regardless.  I think there were over 300 people there, though there was only seating for 150.  The announcer was a woman from the other ward who forgot her witch costume.  The line still stretched the entire way around the gym and she started threatening if everyone didn’t get outside right then then their children would miss the trunk-or-treat.  I had made 7 dozen cookies and they were gone in 15 minutes, so there was definitely more than 80 participants in the trunk-or-treat.

Sunday we carved our pumpkins.  Kaela helped scoop the seeds out of hers, so long as mom took the seeds out of the pumpkin and put them on her spoon to put in the bowl.

The video is a bit dark, but we had lots of fun walking as a family.

Halloween we went trick-or-treating down the street.  I was amazed that most people tried to give Kaela a whole handful of candy for her and another for Eliora.  It made sense a bit when we got home and we had not a single trick-or treater at our house the whole evening.
