Moving on to Bigger and Better. . .

IMG_0320Ok, ok, I know we’re way overdue on posting. So many of you may or may not know that since our last post, we have moved to Georgia! In other words this post is back-dated a little – I wanted to write a little about our trip, even though it’s been almost a month. I’ll write more later about the house and getting settled in.

So, just to connect from the last post, I finished Officer Basic on September 5th, after which they gave me 10 days to out-process, which basically consisted of running around post and getting signatures from lots of people as they took me out of their systems. Anyway, then came moving!

For our first experience moving with the ARMY , things went fairly well – and I won’t say that’s only because we did it all ourselves. . . ;-) Yes, that’s right. We could have just sat back and watched people pack our boxes and move our furniture for us, but instead we decided to sweat it out ourselves. In large part it was due to some concern for the Piano and liability issues with whoever moved it (i.e. whether they would pay to replace it if they damaged it), but in the end we opted to do most of it ourselves. So come Sept. 18th we loaded up the truck. We hired some guys to come and pack up and move the piano, and then some of the youth came to help us load the rest. It was a big job, naturally, and Kristin and I were surprised (as always) to see just how much stuff we had!

Then we loaded up the motorcycle and went on a road trip. I got to drive the big Budget truck, while Kristin and the kids towed the bike with the minivan.  Yep, that is a minivan – but somehow towing a 1300cc motorcycle makes the minivan less distasteful.   Thankfully, the trip itself was fairly uneventful, hindsight.  While going it was long and hard to not have two adults in the car, but there were no disasters, everyone got there safely and no worse for wear. Three days and 1200  miles later we pulled into our new home, and moved in with the help from the Elders Quorum. And this time we didn’t have to move the piano up any stairs. :-)
