Ward Playgroup

When we moved into our ward 6 months ago my first question to the RS president was, “When does playgroup meet?”  But they didn’t have a playgroup and I was very sad.  So, with the support of the Relief Society and my husband’s keys to the building, I am starting the playgroup.  We have had a pretty good turn out, now that we have met three times.

Our first time was a Water Festival and we had many things to do.  I froze water balloons with colored water (The favorite), had many dumping toys, a sprinkler going, water balloons, boats…. The kids were soaked, and we had a great time.

Last week we did paint.  I have some powdered tempera paint and mixed the primary colors and let the kids go to town.  Lots of different ways to paint – brushes, partly filled balloons, roller, stencils.  We did thick finger paint too, but it turned out chunky and not as much fun.  The tables had tons of paint on them, as did all the kids.

This week we did bubbles.  Something they liked, but I would not do again – add paint to the solution and let them blow through straws.  You can make a print from the bubbles that looks very cool, but it was WAY more mess than I thought it would be.  But we had different kinds of wands, shaving cream, sudsy bubbles from dish detergent.  They were all fun.  Look closely and you can see red paint all over Kaela’s face.

And every week has ended up with us needing a major cleanup job.

  2. So fun! You're doing an awesome job. The playgroup in our ward is lame. They go to Mcdonald's and play once a week. We went one time. Come here and show them how to do it!
