We just got big news that Lee has been awarded the Residency spot in San Antonio, TX on Brook Army Base! We now know that we will be in San Antonio for a year and a half, and we are so grateful to have a little more stability. (Not knowing where we will be in 3 months has been hard for me, so it is wonderful to know.)
There were three residency openings: one in San Antonio, one in West Point, NY, and one in North Carolina. They told us that this was the most competitive year they have ever had in selecting for their residency programs and we were fortunate to get San Antonio, where we wanted to stay. I am so proud of Lee, he has worked very hard through school and now it has a little payback.
Residency programs are intensive specialty training after you have gotten you OD degree. Lee will mostly be working in the eye clinic, but he will probably be attending seminars and doing a couple projects, probably alongside one of the ophthalmology schools. The program is a year long, and it will double our military obligation to 6 years. One good thing is that Lee will still be getting his entire salary and we are very excited to be graduating and getting money rather than giving it.
We have been told so many good things about San Antonio, so we are excited to go and see it for ourselves.
Congrats! San Antonio is a nice city and a good place to raise a family. You guys are so full of adventure! The military really isn't that bad, right now I kinda miss it!
