Potty Training

I am so excited, that I am proclaiming to the world that we have had a successful week potty training!  Today is actually day 5, but I am so encouraged that I am not terribly afraid of taking Kaela out again.  To start, I ordered a book called, Potty Training in Less Than a Day, which I read and based most of my trials on.  We bought the potty, training pants, doll that wets and lots of bribery snacks.

The first day was hard.  There is no way you can force a willful 2 year old to sit on the potty for 10 minutes, you cannot make them relax, you cannot make they go, you cannot make they do just about anything.  So we used lots of convincing using fruit snacks and banana bread; she got the idea.IMG_1707

She has been running around with a shirt and loose training panties since Tuesday.  On Saturday we went to the theme park Six Flags.  It was incredible.  In going, we had decided that we would try the panties out, but assumed we would be reduced to diapers within a couple hours.  No way, Kaela is on her way and has no problem in going in the big public potties.  She also did great at church yesterday.

We have had issues that she does not want to have a bowel movement while on the potty.  We have been having just that one accident a day and I don’t know really what to do about it.  She will go on the potty if I catch her in the act, but I’ve missed the past two days and then we have a mess.  :(

But all in all, I think the experience has been great and quite successful.  She will go by herself, pull down her panties, go pee-pee, wipe, pull up her panties and empty the pot in the toilet, mostly all without reminders.  She loves flushing the toilet but does not enjoy washing her hands.  Wish me luck!

  1. I am so proud of you! you deserve a great award for your accomplishement. Fun fact. Elliott went pee on the potty this morning, randomly, she took interest it. Jeremy offered for her to sit and pee - and she did! I think we might have to borrow that book and baby soon!!
