Pictures of Eliora

These pictures have come from our baby’s first week at home.  We are all doing well and adjusting much better than I had thought we would.  It is wonderful to have her part of our lives.

Birth Story:

I had been having contractions for two and a half weeks, but they weren’t very productive.  They got strong enough Monday  that I actually called my midwife at midnight to tell her I thought that this was it.  But the contractions went away and we both went back to sleep.  My midwives said I could go 12 days past due date before an induction would be scheduled, but I was done.  I even tried castor oil.  I was afraid it would taste awful, but really it wasn’t the taste that was bad.  Swallowing 2 T of oil is not something my body felt it could do, but I gagged it down with orange julius.  It barely gave me diarrhea, let alone ANY contractions.  Aye!  I was going in every TWO days to have a non-stress test done on the baby.  I had to have another ultrasound to check the fluid levels. Everything indicated that this baby was not coming soon.  I had them strip my membranes, yet that didn’t do the trick either.  My oh my, I really wanted my baby to come and she was so content inside.

So, we scheduled the induction for Wednesday.  It must have been fear of that that sent me into labor.  Tuesday evening about 5:00pm the contractions began.  They weren’t any stronger or regular than before, the just didn’t go away.  So I called our babysitters (Thank You Kristen and Landon!) and my midwife and told her I wanted to come in.  I got to the hospital, got admitted and sat in the waiting area for 1/2 hour before they took me to triage.  The contractions were now every three minutes and I was afraid that I would scare the others in the waiting room.  But thanks to my Hypnobirthing training, it was all very calm.  I got to triage and they realized that I was not going home and was out into a room in less than 5 minutes.  This was about 8:00pm and they soon found I was dilated to 8 cm.  But several more hours were required to open my pelvis and let the baby come down.  At 12:30 they broke my water and 12:48 I had a new baby.

The birth was amazing and so much better than with Kaela.  I was more cognizant, more in control and able to birth my baby myself.  It was an incredible thing that I will always remember.

I am grateful to be home, doing quite well and loving being mommy to a baby girl again.
