9 Months Old!

Kaela has passed the threshold - somehow the title "9 month old" seems to signal the change between 'mobile baby' and 'budding toddler'.

But at her well baby visit today we have her measurements:
Weight: 19 pounds 14 ounces
Height: 28 1/4 inches
Head Circumference: 46 centimeters

This puts her squarely in the 75th percentile in all categories. At least we know she is well proportioned. Her growth plot isn't as steep as the standard, but that is not surprising, seeing as her birth weight and height were up in the 90th percentile and her parents are not tall. She's got to slow down to cope with short genes.

At her visit she got a flu shot :( and had her blood drawn for an anemia test. Did you know that they draw blood like she was an adult? Stretch out the elbow and stick a needle in there. They had to take quite a bit of blood too, for such a tiny girl. In my opinion, that was much worse than the shot since it took a while of holding her still to get all the blood they needed.

But I was lucky and Lee held her in the chair while they took the sample. Some times I think that Massachusetts is crazy.... Why test some of these things? They had to do like 15 blood tests when she was born, and in order to go to kindergarten here, she has to have blood taken at least 3 more times to test for lead poisoning. I'm glad we'll be graduated before then.

  1. Part of that is because there are so many old homes and apartments, so they teat all of the kids for lead. It is no fun for our kids or the parents who have to hold them down, but better safe right. I can't believe it has been 9 months! She is beautiful!

  2. I really hope they don't have to draw Ryan's blood at his 9 month appointment, sad! Kaela is getting so big! Ryan really doesn't move at all yet, so it's crazy to see how much Kaela gets around. In answer to your question, we have the Fisher Price Space Saver high chair. It snaps right on to a regular chair and has been really nice, we like it a lot! Plus it was cheaper than the stand alone high chairs.
